Is the U.S. Navy Sinking? A Warning

Seth Cropsey and Harry Halem on the War on the Rocks site advise us that the U.S. Navy “is hobbled by questionable training, a shortage of personnel, and a general unpreparedness to fight and prevail in a war.”

That assessment is arrived at by referring to an advisory from Admiral W.K.Lescher, Vice Chief of Naval Operations, that “The loss of a U.S. Navy capital ship due to the preventable cause outline in this investigation is unacceptable and points to operational standards issues which will be addressed through accountability actions and learning to action initiatives at multiple levels.”

That, indeed, is an upsetting finding that ought to be taken to heart not only by the Navy, but the U.S. government overall. “Anchors Aweigh, my boys, Anchors Aweigh. Farewell to college joys, we sail at break of day-ay-ay-ay…”
