Parking Garage Security

Buildings with parking garages in them too often become crime scenes – with assaults or robberies committed in the cheerless garage. Parking garage security is an important concern, Randy I. Atlas, CPP, reminds us in an article, “Fear of Parking,” in Security Management magazine.

The Atlas piece contains helpful tips, of pertinence to building and security managers and architects, on securing parking garages. He groups them under five principles: Natural Surveillance, Natural Access Control, Territorial Behaviors by Legitimate Users, Management and Maintenance at Industry Standards, and Legitimate Activity Support. All in all, a helpful primer on parking garage safety.

For parking garages in high-security buildings, PRO Barrier Engineering’s Arrestor or LightFoot barriers could be just what the security force needs to keep unwelcome folks out.
