A New Security Circuit: Turning Off the Lights Automatically

We wrote last time about how big companies are bringing IT and physical security together, a concept known as convergence. Here’s an example from of how access control, CCTV and alarm management over local and wide area networks is yielding comprehensive savings at 40 Liberty Mutual Insurance Company buildings across the U.S.

The integration of security systems is even saving on energy costs. For example, at Liberty Mutual’s Boston headquarters, security officers used to turn off the main floor and lobby lights on their rounds at about 11:30 p.m. Now those lights are connected to alarm monitoring panels and the lights are turned off automatically at given intervals.

There’s much more about Liberty Mutual bringing its security systems together in this informative Security Solutions piece.
