DHS’ Role in Hometown Security

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) functions as a Department of Hometown Security when it comes to protecting the American people where they live. That, indeed, is its most important mission.

“As part of this mission,” its website explains, “DHS fosters collaboration between the private sector and the public sector to
mitigate risk and enhance the security and resilience of public gathering sites and special events.”

You may not hear of these hometown security efforts, but they are ongoing. Visit the DHS website to become better acquainted with the department’s security activities, in broad strokes anyway.
