Prisoner Mails Himself Out of Jail

Here’s a little comic relief, which we all need these days. (The incident, though, isn’t so funny in Germany, where it occurred.)

Bruce Schneier advises us of an incident in Willich (near Dusseldorf), Germany in which a prison inmate mailed himself out of jail in a box.

A 42-year-old convicted Turkish drug dealer climbed into a cardboard box that, along with other boxes, was then picked up by a courier service. Outside the prison, he slashed a canvass cover on the courier lorry and vanished.

There’s a moral, of sorts, in this for security guards at entrances protected by barriers: It’s not just whether you can stop a vehicle, but what’s inside that counts.
