Respecting the Human Element

Amotz Brandes, a former Israeli soldier now directing a security consulting firm, speaks of the continuing importance of the human element in an era of high security technology.

“The advances we’re seeing in detection technologies are impressive, and it’s an area where people are trying to fully automate the process,” Brandes, director and managing partner of Chameleon Associates, Canoga Park, CA, says. “But at the end of the day, security is human-based. Automation and integration of these technologies? That’s great–go for it.

“But in most cases it doesn’t work without the human dimension and a shift in thinking toward the possible incident as opposed to the historic one.”

Brandes was speaking about methods for detecting bomb material and improvised exposive devices (IEDs). Yet his comments are on the mark for any aspect of security; we at PRO Barrier Engineering endorse them wholeheartedly.

The human element is key to understanding and responding appropriately to a security need. That’s, why when you call or e-mail PRO Barrier to ask about our products, you hear from us directly. No e-mail can capture the subtle issues that may be associated with your particular installation. So we don’t just assume – we engage you in dialogue to ensure our response is accurate and really addresses your needs.

Where other companies send literature, we provide answers based on direct insights. That’s our sense of what it means to keep the human element foremost. We think it’s important to state that occasionally.
