Social Media Searches for Missing Persons

Newspapers and other traditional media that let missing persons trails grow cold may be upstaged by today’s new forms of social media.

Investigators are seeking to refine techniques for using social media as source nodes for information on missing persons – if any such information is out there.

Web search tools, like Google Alerts, along with You Tube videos, Face Book pages and whatever other social media sites ingenuity suggests may provide leads on missing persons, if they are at all to be found. That, at least, is the hope of the searchers being quoted in “Cold Cases and ‘Social Searches'” in the October Security Management magazine.

The article is worth the attention of security officials interested in adding new techniques to their repertoires  – and who wouldn’t be interested in doing that?
