Barrier Stops an Intruder’s Car at the White House

The utility, indeed, the necessity, of vehicle barriers at key entry points was demonstrated last week when a woman’s car was stopped by a security barrier at an entrance to the White House grounds.

It was another of several attempts by the same woman, from Tennessee, to penetrate perimeter security at the White House.
An onlooker told the Washington Post that it appeared as if the driver “was trying to break through the barrier,” and that he thought “she started to hit the gas, and her tires were spinning and smoking.” She was apprehended immediately by Secret Service guards.

A well-designed barrier will work just that way. “No intruders” means exactly that.
